EPCH signs MOU with Colombia Chamber for handicrafts

New Delhi, Feb 19 (KNN)  Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Bogota Chamber of Commerce, Colombia to cooperate in exchange of information, participation of events, promotional activities, training programmes, pertaining to the handicrafts sector.
 
The MOU was signed on February-17 during the 37th edition of Indian Handicrafts and Gifts Fair (Spring) 2014 being held in Greater Noida from February 17-20. 
 
A high level delegation from Colombia was present at the event comprising of First Lady of Republic of Colombia, Maria Clemencia Rodriguez De Santos, President, Bogota Chamber of Commerce, Monica De Greiff Lindo and  General Manager, Artesanias De Colombia, Aida Vivian Lechter De Furmanski, according to Executive Director – EPCH, Rakesh Kumar.
 
Also present on the occasion were Secretary (Textiles), Zohra Chatterji, and Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) S S Gupta. 
 
The signing of the MOU between two agencies would result in increase in cooperation and bilateral trade between the two countries, said Chatterji.
 
As per the MOU, both the parties shall establish a reciprocal exchange of information which might enable product development and market access of handicrafts between the two countries. 
 
Both countries would also cooperate in identifying areas of potential cooperation and advising on recommending participation in each other’s events/activities, a press release said. 
 
They would also encourage private sector business in their respective countries to participate in trade fairs, exhibitions and seminars in either country with regard to handicrafts products and both parties shall facilitate the visits of their respective officials’ trade delegation to each other’s dedicated exhibitions venues to promote interaction with representatives of participating companies.
 
India and Colombia would organise training programmes for exporters in the field of handicrafts promotion activities and techniques. Further, with a view to evaluate and determine the execution of the promotion and cooperation activities envisaged in the MOU other meetings would be held at convenient times in both countries.
 
Neither party shall bear any financial obligation except for reimbursement of expenses agreed in advance for specific actions mutually agreed by the parties.  The MOU has been signed for a period of two years.  (KNN/ES)
