Formal Adoption of UPI in Greece Advances Bilateral Ties and India’s Global Digital Footprint

New Delhi, Jul 1 (KNN) Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal witnessed the launch of Unified Payments Interface (UPI) services in Greece during his visit to Athens, following a partnership between Eurobank and NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL).

The launch enables eligible customers to make instant and secure digital payments using UPI in Greece, marking another step in the international expansion of India's digital payments platform.

During the visit, Goyal attended a demonstration of the UPI service at Eurobank headquarters and held discussions with the bank's leadership on financial cooperation and investment opportunities.

He also participated in the India-Greece Business Council meeting and business forum, where Indian and Greek industry representatives discussed opportunities to expand cooperation in infrastructure, energy, ports, logistics, shipbuilding, warehousing, trade, gems and jewellery, digital innovation, defence, food processing and agriculture.

The minister later attended the India-Greece Business Summit, which brought together government representatives and business leaders from both countries to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral trade, investment and economic cooperation.

According to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the visit forms part of ongoing efforts to deepen commercial ties and promote greater business engagement between India and Greece.
