New Delhi, Jun 4 (KNN)  The 102nd International Labour Conference (ILC) which will begin tomorrow in Geneva will focus on employment and social protection in the new demographic context.

The 185 member States of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) meet at the International Labour Conference, held every year in Geneva, Switzerland, in the month of June.

Other topics to be discussed in the forthcoming edition of ILC are sustainable development, decent work and green jobs as well as a recurrent discussion on the strategic objective of social dialogue.

The Conference, which is often called an international parliament of labour, has several main tasks - crafting and adoption of international labour standards in the form of Conventions and Recommendations; examining reports of member states and the global report;  providing a forum where social and labour questions of importance to the entire world are discussed freely.

Many of the government representatives are cabinet ministers responsible for labour affairs in their own countries. Heads of State and prime ministers also take the floor at the Conference. International organizations, both governmental and others, attend as observers.

India will be represented by a high level tripartite delegation headed by Union Labour and Employment Minister Mallikarjuna Kharge, according to an official notification.

Others in the delegation include Minister of State (Labour and Employment) K Suresh, state labour ministers of Tamil Nadu and Assam and representatives of trade union organizations and employers’ bodies and other senior officers of the ministry.

Kharge will address one of the plenary sessions and also address the delegates of Asia-Pacific Countries, attending a Dinner meeting of G20 Labour and Employment Ministers and will also be participating in the World of Work Summit.   (KNN)
