India, Mauritius to forge co-operation in MSMEs

New Delhi, Sep 2 (KNN) India and Mauritius are working to finalise a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on co-operation in the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector as the two countries have common interest in several key areas such as pharmaceuticals, electrical machinery, apparel, clothing etc.

A delegation led by Jangbahadoorsing Seetaram Minister of Business, Enterprise and Cooperatives, Mauritius called on K H Muniyappa Minister of State MSME here today. 

“India is Mauritius’ largest trading partner and has been the largest exporter of goods and services to Mauritius since 2007. Considerable interest has also been shown by Indian as well as Mauritian enterprises especially by MSMEs for co-operation in sectors like pharmaceuticals, electrical machinery, apparel and clothing accessories, precious, semi-precious stones and optical photographic and precision instruments, etc.,” said Muniyappa.

Both countries have been working together for finalising a MoU on cooperation in the MSME sector, which will provide co-operation at all levels including technology transfer, marketing and finance.

Meanwhile, National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC) has already signed a MoU with Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority of Mauritius (SMEDA).

NSIC may provide consultancy to Mauritius’s SMEDA on mutually agreed terms in implementation of its strategy for the development of Incubation Centres (IC).

Further, it strengthen the SMEDA Resource and Technology Centre (SRTC) with emphasis on research and development.

The MoU promotes a favourable business environment and empower small and medium enterprises to emerge as service delivery network which increases their contribution in the national economy. (KNN/GUNJ)
