India-Myanmar Trade & Investment Show gets underway

The event is organised by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) with support from the Ministry of Commerce, Government of India and the Indian Embassy in Myanmar.
“The trade exhibition is an ideal platform to showcase India’s capabilities, products and services and to explore opportunities for joint ventures, technology transfer and marketing tie-ups,” said a FICCI release.
Over 80 companies from India including Larsen and Toubro, Thermax Limited, Kirloskar Electric Co Ltd, Finolex Cables Limited, Encyclopaedia Britannica India Pvt Ltd, Borosil Glass Works Ltd, Bry-Air (Asia) Pvt Ltd, VLCC Personal Care Ltd and Zee Laboratories are taking part in the exhibition.
The focus sectors of the trade show are agriculture and food industry, automobile, engineering and infrastructure, pharmaceuticals and healthcare, travel and tourism and consumer products.
“With new investment laws and liberalized trade regime in Myanmar, India Product Show, offers an opportunity to Indian businessmen to expand trade and investment relations with Myanmar,” said FICCI.
India’s trade with Myanmar more than doubled in the last seven years. In 2013-14 total trade has crossed USD 2 billion with exports at USD 787.01 million and imports at USD 1.395 billion. The economic engagement between the two countries has gained momentum in the last few years and their trade relations have witnessed a steady growth, it said.
India accounts for a sizeable share in Myanmar’s imports of pharmaceutical products (37 per cent), essential oil, perfumes, and cosmetics (6.6 per cent), rubber and articles (6.2 per cent), articles of iron or steel (5.6 per cent), cotton (5.6 per cent), and iron and steel (5.5 per cent).
