India-Qatar to have tie-ups in MSME, other sectors

New Delhi, Mar 27 (KNN) India and Qatar have held detailed discussions on bilateral trade cooperation in a number of areas including sectors like MSME, investment, banking and finance, energy, petrochemicals and fertilizers, civil aviation and tourism.
An 18-member high-level official delegation led by Under Secretary in the Ministry of Economy and Commerce, Government of Qatar, Sultan bin Rashid Al Khater, visited the national capital on March-25 and 26.
Indian delegation included officials from the ministries of Finance, External Affairs, Small and Medium Enterprises, Industrial Policy and Promotion, Disinvestment, Petroleum and Natural Gas, Fertilizers, Civil Aviation and Tourism.
The two delegations had cordial and productive discussions in the framework of the historically close and friendly relations, and the multi-dimensional and growing cooperation between India and Qatar.
Both sides shared the view that there is a vast potential to further strengthen cooperation in the above-mentioned and other sectors, and agreed to actively follow up the discussions held during the visit of the Qatari delegation.
Speaking at the session, Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, E M S Natchiappan stated that India was embarking on a major infrastructure development program and welcomed investment from Qatar in that sector.
He also mentioned that India was developing several industrial corridors in the country and these projects present a myriad of opportunities for investment by Qatari business. The Minister spoke of the role that Indian nationals were playing in Qatar in creating a positive image of India.
In his address, Under Secretary, Ministry of Economy and Commerce, Government of Qatar, and leader of the Qatari Delegation, Sultan bin Rashid Al Khatir stated that Qatar was seeking Indian investment as the country proceeded on its privatization process.
He also spoke about the synergies that the two countries have in the field of infrastructure. He called for businesses from both countries to leverage these commonalities and strengthen infrastructure in both countries.
A high level 15 member Qatari delegation and about 40 senior representatives from Indian Industry participated at the event. The Ambassador of India to Qatar and the Ambassador of Qatar to India also participated at the Forum.
The visiting delegation also interacted with a number of representatives of India’s corporate sector at business events organized by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI). (KNN/SD)
