New Delhi, Jan 25 (KNN) India has slapped the first anti-subsidy duty of 13.44 per cent on Castings for Wind Energy Generators from China. The move has come as a relief for the small and medium Castings manufacturers in India.

The Directorate General of Anti-Dumping and Allied Duties (DGAD), in a notification on January 19, said that the Castings for Wind Energy Generators have been exported to India from the Republic of China cat subsidized value, thus resulting in subsidization of the product.

DGAD said the domestic industry has suffered material injury due to subsidization of the subject goods; and the material injury has been caused by the subsidized imports of the subject goods originating in or exported from the subject country.

DGAF thus recommended the imposition of definitive countervailing duty on imports of the Castings of Wind Energy Generators originating in, or exported, from China.

Hailing the move, Dr K Kasthurirangaian, Chairman, Indian Wind Power Association and also Vice-President, World Wind Energy Association, told KNN, “The Castings manufacturers had been approaching the government to impose the duty since long.”

He pointed that despite the domestic manufacturers having the capability of manufacturing good quality Castings for the Wind Energy Generators, the Generator manufacturers were buying it from China, probably because of cheaper costs.

He said there are lots of domestic manufacturers of Castings in India and the move will definitely provide relief to them. (KNN Bureau)
