India to Raise Concerns over EU rules at WTO Ministerial Conference

New Delhi, Aug 2 (KNN) India and other developing countries will take up issues regarding the European Union’s (EU) four recent climate change and trade-related regulations at the next Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organisation (WTO).

As per media reports, WTO will hold and its 13th meeting by February-end in Abu Dhabi.

India has already submitted a paper against the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, also known as carbon tax, at the WTO.

Other countries like China members of the Africa Group have also filed their objection at the global trade-regulating body.

From January 2026 the tax will be imposed on iron and steel, cement, aluminium, fertilizers to begin with.

India’s aluminium and steel industry will be impacted the most among several sectors.

In 2022, around 27% of India’s exports or steel and aluminium worth USD 8.5 billion went to the EU.  (KNN Bureau)
