New Delhi, Feb 18 (KNN) A week-long recent visit by Indian MSME delegation o Lahore and Karachi received overwhelming attention in the Pakistani media which underscored the need for removing irritants to normalise the bilateral trade.

A 15 member delegation of the Federation of Indian Micro & Small and Medium Enterprises (FISME) visited Karachi and Lahore between February 9th and 15th.

The FISME delegation led by Mukesh Kalra had meetings with different Pakistani trade and industry bodies including the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industries (LCCI).

These meeting were very well highlighted by leading Pakistani newspapers - Dawn, The News and The Nation. The electronic media also showed a lot of interest in the coverage of the Indian MSME delegation to Pakistan.

In one of these exchanges, LCCI Senior Vice-President Mian Tariq Misbah said that frequent visits by Indian delegations to Pakistan in the last couple of years showed that Indian business community was keen to study Pakistan markets.

LCCI Vice-President, Kashif Anwar said more efforts should be made to enhance bilateral trade which is less that USD 2 billion.

He also emphasised the need for increasing Pakistan’s exports to India and thus correct the trade imbalance.

Kalra from FISME said that a study is underway to identify sector specific impediments to bilateral trade.

He also said that the delay in issuance of visas to businessmen of the two countries was the biggest hurdle in normalising bilateral trade. (KNN Bureau)
