Chennai, Aug 9 (KNN) Two colleges in Tamil Nadu - the Madras Veterinary College and the Christian Medical College (CMC) in Vellore - have plans to get global by partnering with institutions in the UK.

The initiative has been taken under the Knowledge Economy Partnerships (KEP) programme by the British Council.

Knowledge Economy Partnerships support collaboration between Indian and UK academic institutions by providing seed-funding for project activities and exchange-visits between India and the UK for the primary purpose of building capacity and to strengthen policy and practice of higher education in India and the United Kingdom.

It provides a platform and framework for the creation of sustainable, multilateral partnerships that link the higher education sector, government and business communities to drive forward regional, national and global knowledge economies.

The recent initiative includes a one-year partnership programme between the veterinary college and the Royal Veterinary College of the University of London. Under this a number of online courses will be provided that will benefit veterinarians from both ends.

Moreover, CMC Vellore and the University of Edinburgh will introduce a similar distance learning programme online in family medicine. (KNN/SD)
