New ASEAN framework on e-commerce underway to help expand MSMEs

New Delhi, Nov 22 (KNN) In a bid to strengthen the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises sector in the ASEAN region, the ASEAN Coordinating Committee on E-commerce will introduce new Asean framework on ecommerce. The new framework is expected to open up more opportunities for micro and small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and facilitate their business expansion in the region.

Datuk Ravindran Palaniappan, Chair of the working group of trade in services of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) in a press interview said that the Asean Coordinating Committee on E-commerce had been working to formulate uniform e-commerce law because   all 10 ASEAN countries have different e-commerce laws.

He added that the committee is yet to finalize the framework and once implemented the law would be helpful for entrepreneurs in MSME sector.

Earlier Ravindran had officiated a one-day forum in Malaysia . In the forum he highlighted the need to enable MSMEs to adopt ecommerce platform .He said that the Malaysian government has announced many initiatives to digitize the MSMEs in the country.

Speaking on Malaysia’s Digital Free Trade Zone, he said that the MSMEs had been encouraged to utilize the online platform as it would provide ample  opportunities for MSMEs to expand their business in the region. (KNN/AG)
