New Delhi, Mar 10 (KNN) Over 24 countries have agreed to send their representatives to India to participate in the informal Ministerial meeting of World Trade Organization proposed by the India.

The countries that have confirmed their participation include China, Australia, Japan, New Zealand, Brazil, Uruguay, Uganda, the EU, Canada, the US and Turkey.  Besides this, Jamaica, Mali and Vietnam have expressed inability to send their representatives to the meeting.

The informal meet is not to have any rigid agenda, countries would be interacting with each other on an informal note, Commerce Secretary Rita Teaotia said, informing about the upcoming meet.

“The idea is to provide a platform in which countries can sit in a relaxed way and discuss how to deal with the current impasse. It is more of an ice-breaker”, Rita said.

While the meeting is to go on a free-flow, there would be a Chair’s statement from the Indian side given y Commerce and Industry Minister Suresh Prabhu on the end day of the conference, i.e. 20th March.

Also 10 countries are yet to respond to the invitation, the officials informed. (KNN/DA)
