On ‘World No Tobacco Day’, traders urged not to sell tobacco

Chennai, May 31 (KNN) On ‘World No Tobacco Day’ (WNTD), the Tamil Nadu Vanigar Sangangalin Peravai has requested traders not to sell tobacco products on May 31.

Every year, on 31 May, the World Health Organization (WHO) and global partners celebrate WNTD.

The annual campaign is an opportunity to raise awareness on the harmful and deadly effects of tobacco use and second-hand smoke exposure, and to discourage the use of tobacco in any form.

Its State president T. Vellaiyan, said “We have requested shops not to sell tobacco products for a day. We have distributed pamphlets to shops, and are also organizing awareness events such as human chain and street play on the occasion.”

While speaking to the reporters, Chairperson of Cancer Institute Adyar, V. Shanta urged the government to implement tobacco vendor licensing at the earliest.
