New Delhi, Mar 13 (KNN)  Oxford University's Saïd Business School has called for respondents to survey on insider cyber security threats.  The anonymous survey can be taken online.

“Many of the dangers of cyberspace are seen as coming from the outside world.  But recent well-publicised events have shown that the cyber-risk to enterprises often comes from within: from their own employees or supply chains.   This risk is increasing and significant damage is being inflicted,” a press statement said.

As part of a major cabinet office effort to help organisations defend themselves against security incidents caused by insiders, Professor David Upton of Oxford University’s Saïd Business School is leading an important research project - Corporate Insider Threat Detection: Cyber Security Inside and Out (CITD).

As part of the project, his team is collecting views and data from IT professionals, C-suite executives and board members to help understand how companies should manage insider-based cyber-threats.

The anonymous survey can be taken online at: https://oxfordsaid.eu.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_1HOJfv1KBlITuBf  and closes on 1 April 2014.   Those who participate in the survey will receive benchmarking feedback, allowing them to see how their company’s practices compare with other enterprises tackling the growing threats from cyber-insiders.

Stewardship of companies’ cyber-security is increasingly being seen as an important element of managers’ fiduciary responsibility, while the intensity and variety of threats from cyberspace continues to increase.   The ultimate purpose of the research is to provide companies with the potential for near real-time detection of insider threat activities within their enterprise – and to halt attacks before they cause significant harm.

The results of the survey will be reported on April 20th 2014.   Respondents will also be given access to subsequent results and guidance from this ongoing project.  (KNN/ES)
