Paris, Nov 19 (KNN)  Economic crisis has eroded confidence in governments around the globe and trust declined in countries which received severe blow by the crisis, said a report from Organisation for Economic and Co-operation Development (OECD).

But measures can be taken to rebuild trust, said the OECD report. It said that governments need to provide open and transparent data.

"Citizens look to governments to lead the way. Without strong leadership, supported by effective policies, trust is easily eroded. Good governance means putting the needs of people at the centre of policy-making," said OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurría.

Despite losing trust in government, citizens are generally pleased with the many public services like police force, health care and education system from which they receive locally in their daily lives, it said.

This year’s edition of Government at a Glance measures the performance of governments in the OECD’s 34 member countries through more than 50 indicators from public sector employment to procurement policies. (KNN/Bureau)
