According to a survey – ‘Employee expectations 2014’ conducted by global human resource company Randstad, personal development is important in India.
“The vast majority (93 per cent) of the Indian employees have put effort in the development of their skills and competencies in 2013 and most (80 per cent) Indian employers gave the opportunity to develop to their employees,” it said.
On the other hand the Indian employers seem to be quite demanding. More than half (57 per cent) of the Indian employees believe they have an employer who expects them to be available 24/7 during their holidays.
Further, slightly less than half (45 per cent) of the Indian employees feel less secure about their jobs due to immigration of foreign employers. This is the highest share of all surveyed countries.
The Randstad Workmonitor was launched in the Netherlands in 2003, then in Germany, and now covers 32 countries around the world. The study encompasses Europe, Asia Pacific and the Americas. The Randstad Workmonitor is published 4 times a year, making both local and global trends in mobility visible over time.
The Workmonitor’s Mobility Index, which tracks employee confidence and captures the likelihood of an employee changing jobs within the next 6 months, provides a comprehensive understanding of sentiments and trends in the job market.
Besides mobility, the survey addresses employee satisfaction and personal motivation as well as a rotating set of themed questions.
The study is conducted online among employees aged 18-65, working a minimum of 24 hours a week in a paid job (not self-employed). Minimum sample size is 400 interviews per country.
The Survey Sampling International (SSI) panel is used for sampling purposes. The 4th wave of 2013 was conducted between October 25 and November 12, 2013 in the following countries: Argentina, Australia, Chile, China, Germany, Greece, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Belgium, Czech Republic, Hong Kong, Luxemburg, Poland, Brazil, Denmark, Hungary, Mexico, Singapore, Canada, France, India, Malaysia, Slovakia, Turkey, UK, USA, The Netherlands and Switzerland.
