Prime Minister Modi Invites Swedish Firms To Expand Manufacturing Presence In India

New Delhi, May 18 (KNN) Asserting that India’s ‘reform express’ is moving at full speed, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday invited Swedish companies to expand their presence in India across manufacturing, green hydrogen, clean energy and other high-growth sectors.

India Highlights Opportunities Across Emerging Sectors

Addressing the European Round Table for Industry (ERT) during his official visit to Sweden, Modi highlighted India’s potential in telecom, digital infrastructure, electronics, deep-tech manufacturing, artificial intelligence, green energy, infrastructure, mobility, urban transformation, healthcare and life sciences.

He said European companies could also play a major role in helping India emerge as a global research and development hub, reported PTI.

“In the last 12 years, India has been working on the basic mantra of reforms, performance and transformation. With the government’s political will, this Reform Express is moving forward at full speed,” the Prime Minister said, while highlighting India’s young population, expanding middle class and rapid infrastructure development.

FTA and Connectivity Projects To Boost Trade

Narendra Modi welcomed the growing momentum in India-European Union ties and highlighted the successful conclusion of negotiations for the India-EU Free Trade Agreement, describing it as a transformative pact for trade, technology, manufacturing, services and resilient supply chains.

He added that connectivity initiatives such as the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor would further boost India-Europe business ties.

Make In India Push For European Firms

Highlighting India as a leading destination for investment, innovation and manufacturing, Narendra Modi cited rapid economic growth, reforms, ease of doing business, digital infrastructure and a strong manufacturing base.

Reiterating the vision of ‘Design for India, Make in India and Export from India,’ he urged European companies to deepen engagement with India as a trusted partner.

He also emphasised talent mobility, education and skill partnerships with European Union nations, saying India’s young workforce will drive future growth, and proposed making the India-Europe CEOs Roundtable an annual event along with setting up a dedicated India desk at European Round Table for Industry.

Sweden Seen As Strategic Partner

During a separate interaction with select Swedish CEOs alongside Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden and Prime Minister Kristersson, Modi said India and Sweden share common values of democracy, transparency, innovation and sustainability, which provide a strong foundation for deeper economic cooperation.

He encouraged Swedish companies to increase participation in initiatives such as ‘Make in India,’ the National Green Hydrogen Mission and the National Critical Mineral Mission, while also exploring opportunities in clean energy, defence, semiconductors and advanced manufacturing.

Modi said India and Sweden are working toward building a long-term industrial partnership that goes beyond a traditional buyer-seller relationship, focusing instead on innovation, co-creation and sustainable growth.
