Stakeholders’ Consultation on 'Trade in Goods’ Commitments under RCEP to be held on Feb 25

Kolkata, Feb 23 (KNN) Stakeholders' Consultation on 'Trade in Goods' Commitments under Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) is being organized on February 25, 2019 in the national capital.

The event is being organized by West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation (WBIDC) and Centre for Regional Trade (CRT), Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce and lndustry, Government of lndia.

RCEP is a proposed free trade agreement between the ten member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and the six Asia-Pacific states with which ASEAN has existing free trade agreements.

The RCEP is an ambitious mega trade agreement which intends to bring in the three largest economies of Asia -India, China and Japan — into a regional trading bloc, along with ASEAN member-countries, Australia, South Korea and New Zealand.

RCEP is looking at all the three aspects of trade including trade in goods, trade in services and investment.

Office of the Export commissioner has been nominated as the nodal agency for conducting the event.

Managing Director, WBIDC & Export Commissioner, GoWB, Vandana Yadav; Eastern Regional Chairman, Federation of Indian Export Organization (FIEO), Sushil Patwari and  Head and Professor, Centre for Regional Trade, Dr. Ram Upendra Das are the speakers of the occasion.

The consultations will provide valuable inputs in the context of the overall Trade in Goods negotiations as well as for improving India’s Trade Facilitation Infrastructure with the basic aim to help augment India’s overall trade with the RCEP member-countries. (KNN/JM)
