New Delhi, Nov 17 (KNN)  US-India Business Council (USIBC) today launched its weeklong mission in India to support and further expand bilateral trade and business dialogues between the nations. The week’s events include the India-US Technology Summit, the meeting of the US-India High Technology Cooperation Group, and USIBC Smart Cities Conclave.

In addition, USIBC will support the reconvening of the Trade Policy Forum the following week after a four-year hiatus, an official release said.

“In the aftermath of the successful visit to the United States by Prime Minister Modi this week’s events will further strategic interchanges for our members, continue to strengthen ties between the two governments and open new channels for communication,” said USIBC (Acting) President Diane Farrell, optimistic about the opportunities that lie ahead for the Council.

Senior executives representing America’s top, technology, energy, infrastructure and defense companies will be present throughout the week including: Cisco, IBM, General Electric, Dow, Ingersoll Rand, Applied Materials, Lockheed Martin, Medtronic, Corning, HCL Technologies, Textron, Boeing, Raytheon, Oracle, United Technologies Corporation (UTC) and others.

The week’s events are also the first opportunity for many members of the US business community to observe India’s changing political landscape following the recent additions and changes to India’s Council of Ministers.

On the calendar of events for the week are:  India-U.S. Technology Summit: Tackling 21st Century Challenges Together on November-18 and 19. The summit aims to build productive partnerships in joint research and development, technology commercialization, and joint business ventures designed to promote trade and investment between the two countries.

US-India High Technology Cooperation Group (HTCG) will meet on November-20.  The important bilateral dialogue will reconvene and seeks to assemble American and Indian industry and Government leaders to discuss contemporary opportunities and challenges faced in high technology trade across life sciences, manufacturing, and strategic trade.

On the other hand, the Smart Cities Conclave will be held on November-22.  Following the joint statement by President Obama and Prime Minister Modi in September in which they identified America’s participation in the building of three Smart Cities in Allahabad, Ajmer and Visakhapatnam, to aid India’s efforts to build 100 Smart Cities across the country, USIBC will convene a day long smart cities conclave to bring together US Industry and officials from the Governments of both nations.

November-25 will see a meeting of the US-India Trade Policy Forum (TPF) which is a government-to-government trade dialogue aimed at increasing bilateral investment between the two nations. The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative has indicated that the following areas of focus will be a part of the TPF: promoting investment in manufacturing, agriculture, intellectual property and services.  (KNN Bureau)
