Won’t let India and China take benefits of WTO: Donald Trump

New Delhi, Aug 14 (KNN) India and China are no longer developing nations and are taking benefits of this tag from the World Trade Organization (WTO). US President Donald Trump stated that he will not let it happen anymore.

Trump often criticizes India for imposing “immense high" duties on US products and also described the country as a ‘tariff king’. The US and China are currently engaged in a bruising trade war after Trump imposed stiff tariffs on Chinese goods where Beijing had retaliated.

Earlier in July this year, Trump had ask the WTO to explain that how it marks the status of a developing country. In a memorandum, US President had allowed the US Trade Representative (USTR) to start taking strict actions if any advanced economies are improperly taking benefits of the WTO loopholes.

While addressing at Pennsylvania earlier this week, Trump said, “India and China are the two economic giants from Asia. They are no longer developing nations and both the countries can’t take benefits of WTO in this regard. Still, advantage is being taken by these countries which had put the US in disadvantage”, he said.

Trump further said, “WTO views certain countries like China and India as they are growing. Well, they have grown”. Trump also warned that the US will not let such countries to take advantage of the WTO.
