MSME Ministry, MoSPI Sign MoU for Udyam Data Sharing to Strengthen Business Statistics

New Delhi, Sep 29 (KNN) The Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) and the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish a data-sharing mechanism for developing and strengthening the Statistical Business Register (SBR).

In a release, the MSME Ministry said the agreement provides for sharing unit-level data from the Ministry’s Udyam Registration ecosystem with MoSPI through Application Programming Interfaces (APIs). A two-way API mechanism will support the development and strengthening of the National Statistical Business Register (NSBR).

Udyam Data To Strengthen Business Statistics

The MoU establishes a structured framework for sharing relevant information from Udyam Registration with MoSPI. According to the MSME Ministry, the data is expected to improve the coverage, consistency and reliability of business information used for statistical purposes.

The agreement was signed by Rajneesh, Additional Secretary and Development Commissioner, Ministry of MSME, and Dalip Singh, Additional Director General, MoSPI, in the presence of senior officials from both ministries.

Better Data For Economic Surveys

An SBR is a centralised and regularly updated database of businesses, enterprises, establishments and other economic units within a defined geographical area. It records key characteristics of these units and their relationships, providing a common framework for compiling business statistics.

A stronger SBR can help improve the coverage and reliability of business data, identify populations for economic surveys, support business demography statistics and facilitate the integration of information from different data sources.

For the MSME sector, the structured use of Udyam Registration data could also provide a more comprehensive statistical base for understanding the size, distribution and characteristics of registered enterprises, subject to applicable data-sharing and privacy safeguards.
