MSMEs Need Greater Support to Meet ESG and Decarbonisation Requirements: Experts
New Delhi, Jul 20 (KNN) MSMEs face challenges in adopting ESG and decarbonisation practices due to gaps in emissions data, monitoring systems, technical expertise and access to finance, experts said at a conference organised by FISME, Mahindra University and Friends of MSMEs in Parliament.
Speaking at the event titled “Global Shocks, Local Stakes: MSMEs at the Crossroads of Trade and Transition”, panellists said decarbonisation can also help MSMEs improve energy efficiency and reduce operational costs.
The discussions highlighted the need for blended finance, credit guarantees, technical assistance and stronger verification systems to support MSMEs in meeting sustainability requirements and accessing green finance.
Experts also said that growing sustainability requirements in global supply chains and regulations such as the European Union's Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) will increasingly affect MSMEs, particularly those linked to exporters and large corporate buyers.
