DU to foster proactive community of entrepreneurs on campus

New Delhi, Aug 4 (KNN)  Delhi University is working with the Ministry of Micro, Small and  Medium Enterprises to nurture entrepreneurs and help them transform ideas into reality.  Its new programme will help those with innovative ideas to transform them into business models.
 
In this regard, Delhi University has called for proposals for which it will provide funds, work environment and mentorship to accelerate the growth of high-potential startups.  The deadline for receiving proposals is August-6.
 
The DUCIC (Delhi University Cluster Innovation Centre) Technology Business Incubator (TBI) was established with a grant from the Ministry of MSME for Technology Entrepreneurship in 2014 to encourage Entrepreneurs/Incubatees to try out their innovative ideas (processes and/or products) at the laboratory or workshop stage and beyond, to carry forward the idea from its mere conception to know-how and then to do how stage, according to official data.
 
DUCIC Technology Business Incubator (MSME) will provide laboratory/workshop facilities and other infrastructural as well as mentorship assistances to the selected incubates in a PPP mode with the incubatee committing 15 per cent of the cost of incubation for leading to a micro scale start-up or 25 per cent of the cost of incubation for leading to a small scale start-up. Funding may range between Rs 4 lakh and Rs 8 lakh.
 
While fostering a proactive community of entrepreneurs on campus, the startup accelerator and entrepreneur program focuses on nurturing innovation in the form of viable business plans to solve real world problems. The main focus is on integrating innovation in finding solutions to everyday problems.
 
The centre has all the required infrastructure to support the incubates, such as high speed internet, individual workstations, access to labs within he campus, conference room for meetings and presentations, access to guidance from industry and academia, dedicated servers for hosting and processing, etc.
 
According to media reports, in the pilot phase, DU had selected 10 proposals and eight of them have been approved by MSME and are underway.
 
Further, even though the programme is targeted towards entrepreneurs on campus, it is open for non-DU candidates as well.
 
The Ministry of MSME has sanctioned a Technology Business Incubator to Cluster Innovation Centre, University of Delhi (DUCIC TBI) under the scheme "Support for Entrepreneurial and Managerial Development of SMEs through Incubators".
 
The main objective of the scheme is to promote emerging technological and knowledge based innovative ventures that seek the nurturing of ideas from professionals beyond the traditional activities of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).  (KNN/ES)
