ESIC Mohali submits report in eye injury of insured worker case, industry association claims report lacks facts

New Delhi, Aug 24 (KNN) In response to the case of an insured worker not being facilitated medical help at the Employee State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) hospital in Mohali, the constituted committee has submitted the report, but the reports lack facts and doesn’t have the actual narrative from the side of the poor worker, Mohali Industry Association has claimed.

Talking to KNN, Jasbir Singh, Chairman of the Mohali industries Association informed about the situation.

He informed that earlier this year Rama Shankar an ESIC insured worker at an MSME unit in the sustained serious eye injury while doing his duty. To avail the medical facility he went to the ESIC hospital but his visit was in vain and he had to spend over 20,000 from his pocket as ESIC doctors referred his case to government hospitals in Chandigarh.

Following this incident KNN carried a story highlighting the issue, responding to which ESIC Director General formed a committee comprising of Sunil Taneja, Regional director, and Dr Ravinder Kaur SSMC , Chandigarh to send their report on lack of medical facilities in ESIC hospitals of the Mohali region.

According to the report compiled by the committee, the medical facilities at the ESIC hospital are in fine tune. With reference to the case of the poor insured worker not being able to access the medical facility, the report said that on that particular day, the doctor assigned was on leave because of which the worker was referred to the other hospital.

The MIA Chairman asserted that the report compiled by the committee is totally contrary to the situation that exists on the ground.

According to the report the doctors assigned to the ESIC hospitals are performing their duties and there is no lack of facility at the ESIC hospitals and dispensaries. MIA has challenged the report and asked for a new committee to look into the actual situation, where over 1.5 lakh insured workers at the ESIC are forced to suffer. (KNN/ DA)
