Google policy changes causes stir in MSME sector

New Delhi, Aug 17 (KNN) The Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) industry in India has expressed concern over Google’s latest policy modification which would require them to pay an additional amount of Rs 1500 crore to Rs 5000 crore annually.

The tech giant had recently announced rebranding of G-Suite to Google Workspace which has also raised several apprehensions amongst MSMEs.

The revamp calls for a specific policy changes which states additional 100 GB storage is no longer available as they need to fit the “Business Standard” category, which has a minimum storage of 2 TB and costs INR 10,100 per year per user.

Vishal Prakash Shah, CEO of Synersoft Technologies which helps MSMEs to save IT Software and Hardware cost in his open letter to Google's Apex Executive said that this policy change will have a huge negative impact on MSME sector.

“These additional changes may lead to downfall of many companies in MSMEs sector. Google's exit barrier has caused further problems for us if we switch to a new service provider,” he added.

The letter is also copied to Competition Commission of India, Ministry of MSMEs, IT & Broadcasting, Science &Technology, Industry & Commerce, and Finance, as per the press release

He has suggested Google to introduce additional storage space options in the “Business Starter” category calling it unfair to charge the customers what they will not use.
