New Delhi, Sept 30 (KNN)  Minister of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises K H Muniyappa today asked the private sector to join hands with the government and develop Public-Private-Partnership in R&D projects with a focus on improving competitiveness of Indian MSME sector in the international market.

For Research and Development, “We have to develop the PPP model,” Muniyappa said at an SME Cluster Summit organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) here.

He said clusters are the most important link in the MSME sector and they have to come forward along with industry bodies for improving competitiveness of the Indian products in the international market so that the Indian products can compete with China and others.  He said there are 10 clusters and more in the pipeline.

Once the products become competitive, banks would come forward to help. “We will ask banks to assist,” he said adding in India “credit is not a problem.  We will ask banks to cooperate.”

Muniyappa said the Finance Ministry is also helping with the required budget for innovation in the MSME sector which is the labour-intensive.  In the 12th Five Year Plan period the government has set a target of creating 40 entrepreneurs at the pace of five lakh per annum.

Access to technology at affordable price remains a key challenge for the small scale industries.   (KNN/PC)
