India, Denmark Discuss Stronger MSME Cooperation In Innovation, Technology

New Delhi, Aug 29 (KNN) India and Denmark discussed strengthening cooperation in the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) sector, innovation and technology during the fourth Joint Working Group (JWG) meeting held in Copenhagen, according to the Ministry of MSME.

The meeting involved India's Ministry of MSME and the Danish Patent and Trademark Office (DKPTO), with discussions focused on promoting innovation, technology and intellectual property (IP)-led growth among MSMEs.

The ministry said the meeting reaffirmed both countries' commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation in these areas, reported ANI.

Focus On Innovation And Ip-Led MSME Growth
The discussions centred on strengthening innovation, technology adoption and intellectual property-led growth among MSMEs, with both sides exploring areas for deeper institutional cooperation.

Delegation Explores Danish SME Ecosystem
During the visit, the Indian delegation engaged with Denmark's Ministry of Business and Competitive Affairs to exchange views on business development, innovation and the small and medium enterprise ecosystem.

The delegation also participated in a panel discussion at TechBBQ, a Nordic startup event. Dr Rajneesh, Additional Secretary and Development Commissioner, Ministry of MSME, and Maria Skou, Deputy Director General and COO of DKPTO, took part in the session.

Insights From Denmark’s Startup And SME Ecosystem
The ministry said the engagements provided insights into Denmark's approach to SME development, startup support and innovation, while interactions with the Nordic startup ecosystem could help identify opportunities for future cooperation and knowledge exchange.

The delegation also visited Aarhus University Innovation ‘Kitchen’ and Agro Food Park to study startup mentoring, fundraising, industry-academia collaboration and business clusters.

India Shares Cluster-Based MSME Experience
India shared its experience with cluster-based MSME development during the visit, highlighting potential areas for knowledge exchange and cooperation between the two countries.

Bilateral Economic Ties
India and Denmark established a Green Strategic Partnership in 2020 covering trade, investment, innovation and cooperation involving small and medium enterprises.

Bilateral trade in goods stood at USD 2.05 billion in 2025, while trade in services reached USD 4.25 billion.

Danish And Indian Companies Expand Presence
Around 200 Danish companies have invested in India, while about 40 Indian companies have a presence in Denmark.

MSMEs’ Contribution To India’s Economy
According to the Economic Survey 2025-26, MSMEs contribute around 31.1 per cent of India's GDP, 35.4 per cent of manufacturing output and 48.58 per cent of exports.
