Indo-German SME Forum on cluster internationalisation begins

New Delhi, Sept 22 (KNN) To provide a platform for dialogue and exchange of information between Indian and German ministries, SME clusters, industry associations and academia, the Indo-German SME Forum began here today.
The second edition of the Indo-German SME is being held at the national capital from September-22 to 23.
The theme for this forum is ‘Cluster Internationalisation’. This refers not just to saving costs or finding new markets for industrial units in any industrial cluster but also to acquire competencies from the rest of the world and produce the best product.
Speaking on the occasion, Country Director, GIZ India, Stefan Helming said that the two countries have several years of development cooperation in energy, environment policy and sustainable economic development. “We are offering a look at German SMEs, and the two countries can learn from each other in terms of SMEs.”
Offering his comments, Deputy Chief of Mission and Head, Department for Economic and Global Affairs, German Embassy, Martin Hanz talked about SME’s role in innovation and prosperity and their contribution to international business, green technology, employment, vocational training in Germany.
“SMEs are an important element of the social fabric in Germany. We need to understand the role of SME as a stabilisation factor in the economy,”Hanz said. The forum would help expand export markets, financing of startups and support innovations.
Also speaking on the occasion, Secretary MSME, Madhav Lal said that the one big difference between German and Indian SME scenario was that about 85 per cent of SMEs in India are not registered, as they belong to the unorganised space or the informal segment.
He called for a comparison between German and Indian SMEs in greater detail, looking into the advantages of collaboration, altering the definition of MSME, and adoption of similar criteria for definition of MSME as in Europe and other parts of the world.
Reiterating that innovation and vocational training were important issues for MSMEs, he hopes that the forum will result in better ideas which the Ministry will be fully supportive of.
