Bengaluru, Dec 30 (KNN) Karnataka Small Scale Industries Association (KASSIA) in collaboration with Karnataka State Small Industries Development Corporation Ltd (KSSIDC) has launched a Skill Development Centre on Monday at the association’s premises.

The aim of the initiative is to provide skilled manpower for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and other small industries.

It also launched its online job registration facility on its website, www.kassia.com, that would bring together its 6000 plus members and prospective job-seekers.

The job portal will help in meeting the specific requirements of both the employer as well as the employee.

In his inaugural address, KSSIDC Chairman B Gurappa Naidu assured KASSIA that he will request the state chief minister for an allocation of Rs 10 crore in the coming Budget for opening such skill development centres in all districts of the state.

Conceding that the KSSIDC had a mixed track record in the recent past, the chairman declared that the corporation would improve its performance by 10 times more than earlier. He also assured to take 4 steps if KASSIA took one step for MSME development.

Emphasizing the need to bridge the trainees’ work skills to industry needs, KSSIDC MD, V Srirama Reddy called for harnessing the demographic dividend as the country with the youngest population in the world, into a quality workforce, by providing on-the-shop floor training to the youth.

Promising to take skill development training to the doorstep of the trainees, KASSIA President Chidananda M Rajamane observed that the best entrepreneur in the world would be worse off than an ordinary entrepreneur if he lacked skilled manpower.

Emphasising the importance of skill development, the president said that true education begins at the factory or workplace and not when one comes out of college.

“While academic knowledge only equips one to become a breadwinner or an entrepreneur, only work skills help one to pursue his dreams,” he said.

Individuals including KASSIA office bearers, past presidents, council members, special invitees and representatives of affiliate industry associations from various districts of Karnataka were present at the inaugural function.

KASSIA general secretary NC Gopinathan gave vote of thanks at the end of the programme. (KNN/ST)
