Despite appealing to the authorities on various occasions, their demands are yet to be met, said President, Tancerma, V Somasundaram.
Top on the list of constraints faced by the Association are related to fuel – the non-availability of gas, firewood, kerosene as well as raw material which in this case is fireclay.
“Natural gas from Narimanam should be brought by pipes to Vridhachalam,” Somasundaram said. As for raw material, he has suggested that Neyveli Lignite Corporation Limited (NLC) should identify clay and start segregation and supply to industries. Further, Tamil Nadu Minerals (Tamin) which was closed previously should be reopened.
The industry has also been plagued by power cuts and the unavailability of power on a continuous basis. The President is of the opinion that all the industries should be connected by an industrial feeder and not through a rural feeder.
Further, unavailability of manpower has also posed a problem for the ceramics industry, the situation further compounded by the lack of effective training facilities. The establishment of a Central Glass and Ceramic Research Institute (CGCRI) in Vridhachalam could be a solution.
In addition, the region does not have a government industrial shed, despite the existing demand. Somasundaram feels that the Small Industries Development Corporation (SIDCO) could construct another shed in the existing industrial estate to cater to small industries.
Tancerma promotes the knowledge of refractory’s clays, clay products and other allied products among its members. It helps bring into contact those engaged in such pursuits with a view to developing a synergy among them. On a regular basis, it holds conferences and workshops on relevant themes. (KNN/ES)
