Bengaluru, Dec 10 (KNN) The focus of the government is now on enabling SME sector for supply of equipment, machineries and general consumables and adding SMEs in the supply chain of high technology products and services related to defense sector, said Union MSME Minister Kalraj Mishra.

The National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC Ltd) today organized its 4th edition of the) MSME DEFEXPO 2015, to create a vibrant defence-industrial base with the private industry as its focal point.

While dedicating the event to the MSME sector, Mishra said, “India, till recent past, relied heavily on the foreign manufacturers for the procurement of defense related equipment.”

However, there was always, a need for self-reliance, he added.

“As we all know that Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) play an important role in creating a self-reliant base for any industrial sector and that stands true for defence sector as well,” Mishra pointed.

Therefore, our focus now is on enabling SME sector for the supply of equipment, machineries and general consumables, adding SMEs in the supply chain of high technology products and services related to defense sector, as SMEs are real component of indigenization, he said.

The MSME DEFEXPO 2015 had been especially crafted bearing in mind the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Make in India’ initiative, and aims at doubling its procurement value to 75% of its indigenous content, through Indian vendors by the next decade.

The MSME DEFEXPO 2015 provides companies with an optimal opportunity to showcase their capabilities in the domains of defence, aviation, aerospace and homeland security.

The Indian Aerospace & Defence’s expenditure on capital acquisition is estimated to be at around USD 120-150 billion in the next 10 years, along with a simultaneous investment of USD 30 billion by the Govt. of India. Additionally, with the Homeland Security market poised to grow at Rs 1.18 lakh crore by 2017, from the current Rs 80,000, the possibilities are endless.
