Singareni Collieries to organise global vendors meet

Hyderabad, Apr 11 (KNN)  To increase coal production, the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) has organised a global vendor meet to discuss the introduction of Longwall (LW) technology in Shantikhani Mine and Shortwall (SW) technology in the mines of Bhupalapalli and Srirampur areas, under risk/gain sharing concept.
The Vendor meet will be held here on April-26.

With a 125-year history, Singareni Collieries Company Limited is the oldest public sector company of India.  The sole producer of coal in southern India with a strategic location has always had an edge over other coal companies. The production of Singareni in 2012-13 is 53.19 MT, which accounts for about 10 per cent of national coal production.
 
The national demand of coal for the year 2014-15 is about 700 MT. The projected demand of coal for the same period from Singareni is about 63.70 MT. Further, with increased population and for sustainable energy growth, the country would have to enhance its power generation considerably from the existing level and the demand for coal will be doubled in near future.
 
With this, the demand for coal requirement from Singareni would always be much more than its present projected levels.
 
At present majority of coal production from Singareni is coming from opencast mines than underground mines and this trend will be reversed in future since the majority of existing opencast mines will be closed due to depletion of shallow depth reserves in near future.
 
Most of the underground mines of SCCL in XII plan and beyond are to be operated in the depth range between 400 meters and 600 meters. The underground production got stagnant at 11MTPA since 2009-10 and the opencast production increased from 38MTPA in 2009-10 to 42MTPA in 2012-13.
 
Further due to growing environment concerns globally, it is imperative to go for highly mechanised and productive underground mines in future as a policy.
 
That is where longwall and shortwall technology comes in.  SCCL is well known for its technology absorption capacity and it has been a forerunner in the Indian coal mining scenario to introduce Longwalls, BG technology and continuous miner technology in many of its underground mines.
 
All these technologies are planned up to a depth of 350mts and working satisfactorily, Further, the production from these technologies is limited to 0.3 MTPA to 0.6 MTPA. The support capacities for earlier Longwalls were ranging from 4x360T to 4x800T.
 
The future underground mines of SCCL are being planned beyond 350m depth range. The technologies like Blasting Gallery and Continuous miner would not be a favourable choice at these depths due to various problems like ventilation, strata control etc. Further each underground mine is to be planned for a production of greater than 3 MTPA in future to become economically viable. If the above technologies were to produce 3 MTPA, the number of units to be operated becomes more and results in low productivity due to increased manpower requirement.  It also poses supervision and safety problems. The tangible and viable solution lies in introduction of high capacity Longwalls with 2X1200T PRS to produce more than 3 MTPA.
 
SCCL in its endeavour towards adopting high capacity Longwalls in its underground mines for better safety and productivity has introduced one such Longwall in Adriyala shaft project of Ramagundam area and another Longwall is to be introduced in Kakatiya Longwall project of Bhupalapalli area under TPO concept.
 
Both these Longwalls are to produce around 3.00 MTPA each. Longwall in Adriyala is entirely owned and operated by SCCL and it is expected to start its production in May 2014.
 
Underground mines that were developed and having standing pillars, which could not be day lighted are not viable with the present semi mechanization. There is an urgent need to bring down the cost of production in these mines by introduction of mass production technologies for increasing production from the present level of 0.2 to 0.3 MTPA to 0.6 to 1.00 MTPA.
 
The liquidation of developed pillars is being done in RK NT underground mine of Srirampur area with Shortwall technology having a face length of around 90 to 100 m. As this technology proved to be successful in liquidating standing pillars in the existing underground mine, SCCL is now planning to introduce Shortwall technology in its underground mines of Bhupalapalli and Srirampur areas.
 
In light of the above, SCCL is planning to introduce Longwall/Shortwall technology through TPO / MDO in the underground mines of SCCL: Shanthikhani Longwall Project and Shortwall Technology in Bhoopalapalli and Srirampur areas.
 
These mines are identified for introduction of large scale mechanization. The exploration of these blocks was done by SCCL in association with Scientific and National Geological agencies.
 
During the vendor meet, it is expected that the prospective bidders would come up with their requirements - technical, financial and otherwise. (KNN/ES)
