New Delhi, Jan 20 (KNN) In the wake of sharp fall in exports of engineering goods, the government should extend the benefits of Start-Up India policy to the exporters as well, RP Sehgal, Senior Vice Chairman of Engineering Export Promotion council of India (EEPC) told KNN.

The exports from India have been consistently declining for more than a year now.

Sehgal opined that the Start- UP India policy is not going to help the Engineering sector until or unless some innovative manufacturing does not take place like any robotic product adding that India is far behind to it.

EEPC officials met the Government official to raise issues over the falling exports and had also put some suggestion to check it.

The officials told EEPC that international demand is less for products and there is also some competitiveness being faced by Indian Industries from China in International Market.

Sehgal pointed that the Prime Minister Office has already directed the states for promoting exports as much they can, but no initiative is being taken from the states in this regard.

He said that despite oil prices being down in the international market, Government is not providing any assistance in India to bring them down. This would have helped the industries to cut down the cost of production.

EEPC chairman TS Bhasin in a statement said that government should extend the benefits of the programme to SME exporters who are battling the global slowdown and contributing towards the countrys current account stability. (KNN Bureau)
