We are encouraging MSMEs to improve quality to remain competitive: Textile Secretary (Watch Video)

New Delhi, Dec 23 (KNN) In the wake of falling exports from the MSME sector, Textile Secretary Sanjay Kumar Panda, in an exclusive interview with KNN, said the Ministry is concerned about the decline in exports but it is encouraging the MSMEs to improve the quality of their products in order to remain competitive in the global market.
 
In order to boost the handloom sale in the country, an exhibition showcasing an exquisite collection of Indian handloom products was inaugurated on Tuesday by the Union Minister of State for Textiles, Santosh Kumar Gangwar, in the national capital.

The exhibition features the latest series of handloom products brought out by National Centre for Textile Design (NCTD).

The collection showcased at the exhibition comprises 160 different handloom products in two colourways. Some important products include items like Banarasi Saree, Brocade Saree, Jamdani saree, Baluchari Saree, Kancheepuram Saree, Upada Jamdani Saree, Venkatgiri, Pochampalli, Patola, Kota Doria, Paithani, Muga, Tussar, Linen, Manipuri textiles, Kani Stoles, Kullu Stoles, trendy garments for men and women, and home furnishings.
 
The products have been made keeping in mind the demands of both domestic and export markets.

The exhibition will be open from December 22 - 31, 2015 (11:00 A.M- 8:00 P.M) on all days.
 
Talking to KNN, Panda said, “The Handicraft segment, handmade carpet segment of the textile industry is growing at the rate of 18 per cent. The growth in 2014-15 was 18 per cent higher than 2013-14. In the current year also the first six months has seen a growth of more than 18 per cent as compared to the previous period.”
 
He further said, “There are issues and it is basically due to International competitiveness.” He said the Ministry is trying to find out the issues related to the quality and value of the products produced.

“But as far as the quality factor is concern, some of our industry products are excellent. Our emphasis is what PM is basically emphasising on that is to bring skill, scale and speed. We have schemes like Integrated Skill Development Services, Textile Park and we are trying to promote them,” he added. (KNN)
