New Delhi, Jun 23 (KNN) The India International Trade Fair (IITF) will have 'Women Entrepreneurship' as the theme for its 2014 edition - the flagship event of the India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO).

The 34th India International Trade Fair (IITF) will be held here from November 14-27.

IITF offers to participants from different segments of industry adequate visibility for their products and services among fair visitors with demarcated halls representing different sectors.

It has special display sections of techmart, representing products and technologies of small and medium enterprises. These represent engineering, software and hardware, automobiles, electronics, telecom, leather, textiles, handicrafts, jewellery, furniture and furnishings besides a wide range of consumer goods.

However, a Parliamentary Committee had criticised the ITPO last September, following  which the Department related Parliamentary Standing on Commerce met industry representatives to review the functioning of ITPO with regard to its services for enhancing exports from Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

The Committee chaired by veteran BJP leader Shanta Kumar had examined the extent and support provided by ITPO to SMEs to access market abroad and its activities related to dissemination of trade information and seminars and workshops.  It also suggested reforms in working and structure of ITPO.

The MSME sector accounts for over 40 per cent of India’s exports. The share of MSMEs in total exports is spread across different product segments.  In case of items like textiles, leather goods, processed food, engineering goods and gems and jewellery, export performance has been commendable over the years.  Sectors like sports goods are almost 100 per cent export oriented.

In view of this, export promotion from MSME sector has been accorded high priority in India’s export promotion strategy and institutions such as ITPO were to play an important role in exposing MSMEs to international markets.

ITPO has had a pioneering role in the national trade growth dynamics since its inception. Apart from its role in bringing the Indian businesses, particularly those in the MSMEs sector, closer to global markets, it was first to popularize trade fairs as a tool of trade promotion within the country. For nearly three and half decades, it is managing India's world class exhibition complex that is constantly upgraded to keep it in a high standard of readiness.

IITF (Indian International Trade show) is an annually organized mega trade show which has been one of the cornerstones of Indian trading scene in the recent history. The trade show has been known for its massive scale and carnival like atmosphere which has attracted wide variety of buyers and sellers from within the country and overseas.  (KNN/ES)
