Coal Ministry Holds Roadshow In Mumbai on Coal Gasification Scheme
New Delhi, Jun 19 (KNN) The Ministry of Coal organised the third roadshow under its Scheme for Promotion of Surface Coal/Lignite Gasification Projects in Mumbai, bringing together industry stakeholders, technology providers, investors and public sector companies to discuss implementation of coal gasification projects.
During the event, the Ministry highlighted that the National Coal Gasification Mission aims to gasify 100 million tonnes of coal by 2030. Officials informed stakeholders that the draft Request for Proposal (RFP) for the coal gasification incentive scheme has been placed in the public domain for consultation, with industry feedback being invited before finalisation.
Coal Secretary Vikram Dev Dutt said the Rs 8,500-crore incentive scheme approved in January 2024 has so far supported eight coal gasification projects involving investments of more than Rs 65,000 crore.
The projects cover sectors including synthetic natural gas, ethanol, hydrogen, acetic acid, ammonium nitrate, DRI-based steel and sustainable aviation fuel.
The roadshow featured presentations on the scheme framework, eligibility criteria, bidding process and draft RFP. Industry participants, including Air Products, Greta Energy and NTPC presented updates on technology and project development, while the Maharashtra government outlined incentives for cluster-based development.
The State Bank of India shared financing options for coal gasification projects.
