Government Unveils Rs 200 Crore Scheme to Boost Green Hydrogen Testing Infrastructure

New Delhi, Jul 5 (KNN) In a significant move to bolster India's green energy sector, the central government has announced new guidelines for funding testing facilities, infrastructure, and institutional support under the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM).

The scheme, with a financial outlay of Rs 200 crore for 2024-26, aims to enhance the quality and testing ecosystem in the rapidly growing Green Hydrogen sector.

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) released a document outlining the scheme's objectives, which include identifying and addressing gaps in existing testing infrastructures and developing new facilities that meet stringent standards for Green Hydrogen and its derivatives.

"The scheme emphasises the development of a robust quality and testing ecosystem that is in line with national and international standards," the MNRE stated.

Under the new guidelines, the National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE) will serve as the Scheme Implementation Agency (SIA), overseeing application and implementation processes.

The SIA will issue Calls for Proposals (CfP) to identify projects for the establishment and enhancement of testing facilities across the country.

To ensure effective implementation, the funding will be disbursed in three stages. Projects will receive 20 per cent of the allocated funds upon selection, followed by 70 per cent upon reaching specific milestones, and the final 10 per cent upon project completion. This phased approach aims to promote accountability and timely execution of the initiatives.

A Project Appraisal Committee has been established to monitor and evaluate projects, ensuring they align with the mission's goals. This committee will play a crucial role in maintaining the quality and relevance of the funded projects throughout their lifecycle.

The government has implemented strict oversight measures to guarantee the success of this initiative. Projects that fail to meet specified timelines or objectives risk having their funding cancelled, underscoring the importance of adherence to the scheme's guidelines and goals.

The MNRE emphasised that this strategic investment in testing infrastructure underscores the government's commitment to advancing India's capabilities in Green Hydrogen, with the aim of positioning the country as a global leader in this critical future sector.

As the Green Hydrogen industry continues to evolve, this initiative is expected to play a crucial role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and secure operation of Green Hydrogen technologies across the country.
