Logistics Data Bank Tracks 10 Crore EXIM Containers, Enhances Logistics Visibility

New Delhi, Aug 14 (KNN) The Logistics Data Bank (LDB) has tracked 10 crore export-import (EXIM) containers since its launch in 2016, providing digital visibility of container movement across India’s logistics network.

Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said the milestone reflects the use of technology to improve logistics efficiency and support manufacturing and global trade.

LDB provides visibility of 100 per cent of India’s EXIM container movement through RFID-based technology. The platform covers 19 ports, 32 container terminals, 103 Inland Container Depots, 439 Container Freight Stations, 89 Manufacturing Special Economic Zones, 5,569 railway stations, 269 toll plazas and three Integrated Check Posts.

The platform provides analytics on container dwell time, transit time, and port and terminal performance, enabling stakeholders to monitor logistics operations and identify bottlenecks.

LDB 2.0, launched in September 2025, added high-seas tracking of export containers and multimodal shipment visibility.

The system uses Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), Internet of Things (IoT), Big Data and cloud technologies to track containers across ports, rail networks, industrial zones, highways and borders. The World Bank’s Logistics Performance Index has recognised the role of LDB in India’s logistics performance.

LDB receives more than 1.5 crore container searches every month. Its tracking services are available through a single-window platform.

NICDC Logistics Data Services Limited (NLDSL), which operates the LDB, also manages logistics technology solutions including the Unified Logistics Interface Platform (ULIP). 

NLDSL was established on December 30, 2015, as a joint venture between the Government of India, through the National Industrial Corridor Development and Implementation Trust, and Japan-based NEC Corporation.
