New Delhi, Dec 9 (KNN) Passing initial assessment remarks of the mid-term review of the Foreign Trade Policy (FTP), engineering exporters body Engineering Export Promotion Council (EEPC) raised that the current structure doesn’t consider over 25,000 Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Units.

EEPC in a letter to Minister of State for Commerce and Industry C R Chaudhary raised that a large chunk of MSMEs involved in segments like agriculture machinery have been left out of the enhancement of incentives under the recent mid0term review meeting of the FTP.

The letter further said that the government must consider extending the 2 per cent enhancement benefit under the Merchandise Exports from India Scheme (MEIS) to these left out MSMEs.

The council is also forming a high-level delegation and is to meet ministers and senior officials of the government to raise their concern.

EEPC in a press statement said that the current framework that excludes these highly labour intensive MSMEs from the sops under the FTP is very disappointing.

Commenting over the assessment of the FTP, EEPC added that the engineering sector is not very happy with the MEIS enhancement in the midterm policy review since it is not very inclusive across sectors. (KNN/ DA)
