Govt Approves Pulse & Oilseed Procurement Under PSS in Haryana, UP, and Gujarat for Summer Crop Season 2025–26
New Delhi, Jun 13 (KNN) In a significant move to support farmers, the Government of India has approved the procurement of 54,166 metric tonnes (MT) of Moong under the Price Support Scheme (PSS) for the summer crop season 2025–26.
The procurement will be carried out in the states of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Gujarat, focusing on strengthening domestic pulse production and reducing the country’s dependence on imports.
Additionally, 50,750 MT of Groundnut will be procured under the PSS in Uttar Pradesh for the same crop season.
Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, also announced an extension of the procurement period in Andhra Pradesh by 15 days, now continuing until 26th June 2025, to benefit local farmers.
To encourage domestic pulse production and reduce import dependency, the Government has allowed procurement of Tur (Arhar), Urad, and Masur up to 100 per cent of state production for the procurement year 2024–25.
This policy has also been extended for four more years, until 2028–29, under the Union Budget 2025. Procurement will be undertaken through Central Nodal Agencies — NAFED and NCCF — aiming at national self-sufficiency in pulses.
These initiatives fall under the broader umbrella of the Pradhan Mantri Annadata Aay Sanrakshan Abhiyan (PM-AASHA), which includes multiple support mechanisms such as the Price Support Scheme (PSS), Price Deficiency Payment Scheme (PDPS), Market Intervention Scheme (MIS), and Price Stabilisation Fund (PSF).
The objective is to guarantee assured and fair prices to farmers, providing income security and safeguarding them against unpredictable market trends.
The proactive steps under PSS help stabilise market prices during peak harvesting and ensure farmers receive at least the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for their produce.
