Bamboo a wonder crop, President Kovind hails potential of bamboo industry

New Delhi, Nov 30 (KNN) President Ram Nath Kovind who is on a two day visit to Mizoram hailed the potential of bamboo crop in terms of its stake to the economy as well as to employment.

The President said that if the bamboo crop is harnessed appropriately, bamboo can be a wonder crop. With value addition, it can be used to create a variety of products and huge employment pool, the President added.

Also recently, calling out for potential investors to start their small scale units in the bamboo processing sector, the Nagaland Chief Minister, T.R. Zeliang discussed the scope of bamboo processing industry in the state during 9th governing body meeting of Nagaland Bamboo Development Agency (NBDA) at his residential office,

The Chief Minister who is also the chairman of the governing body of NBDA highlighted the need to invite investors and industries to set up bamboo processing plants in the country.

He said that small scale bamboo processing industries could be set up in the state which has a huge potential to create jobs instead of sending raw materials out of the state.

He stressed that the high cost  transportation of raw bamboo to the neighboring states reduce the profit margin of the local traders and sometimes traders have to face huge losses. He said that the focus should be on marketability of the bamboo as the state has huge bamboo reserves. (KNN/AG)
