Cabinet Clears Rs. 7,145-Crore Greenfield Kanpur–Kabrai Highway Project to Strengthen Regional Supply Chains

New Delhi, Jul 27 (KNN) The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved the development of a 117.7-km, 4/6-lane access-controlled greenfield highway between Kanpur and Kabrai at an estimated cost of Rs 7,145 crore. The project will be implemented by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) under the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.

The project forms part of the Bhopal–Kanpur Economic Corridor and will connect the Kabrai mining belt with industrial and urban centres, including Kanpur and Bhopal. It is expected to improve the movement of minerals, manufactured goods and agricultural produce across the region.

The highway is expected to reduce travel time between Kanpur and Kabrai from around 3.5 hours to nearly 1.5 hours, while improving freight movement, reducing logistics costs and supporting more efficient supply chains.

The project will also improve market access for farmers by facilitating faster transportation of agricultural produce to mandis, processing units and consumption centres. 

Improved connectivity is expected to support the movement of farm inputs, including seeds, fertilisers and machinery, and strengthen linkages between rural producers and regional markets.

The highway is expected to support industrial connectivity, attract investment, generate employment and promote economic development across the Bundelkhand region.
