CGPDTM Relocates Well-Known Trade Marks Section To Delhi

New Delhi, Feb 26 (KNN) The Office of the Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks (CGPDTM) under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has issued a Public Notice announcing the relocation of the Well-Known Trade Marks Section to the Intellectual Property Office, Dwarka.

The move aims to enhance operational efficiency and streamline technical evaluation processes related to Well-Known Mark applications.

Key Developments

The headquarters of CGPDTM has been shifted from Mumbai to New Delhi. Consequent to this relocation, the Well-Known Trade Marks Section has also been moved to New Delhi.

All matters, applications, communications, representations, and related correspondence concerning Well-Known Trade Marks must now be addressed to the Trade Marks Registry, New Delhi.

NIPEKM to Cover Well-Known Applications

The National Intellectual Property Pendency Elimination Karma Mission (NIPEKM) will now also be implemented for Well-Known Trade Mark applications.

This initiative is expected to reduce pendency in examination and review, improve processing timelines and strengthen institutional efficiency within the Trade Marks Registry (TMR).

Strengthening Trade Mark Administration

The CGPDTM has expressed appreciation for the cooperation and continued support of the IP fraternity in modernising operations within the Trade Marks Registry.

The relocation is part of broader reforms aimed at centralised administrative coordination, faster disposal of applications and improved transparency and predictability in IP processes.

This development signals continued efforts to strengthen India’s intellectual property framework and improve service delivery for applicants and stakeholders.
