India Launches Anti-Dumping Probe Into Resorcinol Imports From China, Japan
New Delhi, Jun 22 (KNN) India has initiated an anti-dumping probe into imports of ‘Resorcinol’ from China and Japan, a chemical widely used in tyre and rubber manufacturing, according to an official notification.
Resorcinol is mainly used as an intermediate in tyre and rubber production, especially in bonding applications, and also finds use in specialised wood adhesives, dyes, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics.
The probe was launched following a complaint by domestic manufacturer Atul Ltd, which alleged that low-priced imports of the chemical are causing significant harm to the local industry.
The Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) stated that it has found sufficient prima facie evidence of dumping and injury to justify the investigation. The authority will examine the extent, degree and impact of the alleged dumping of the product from the two countries.
If the investigation confirms that the imports have caused material injury to domestic producers, the DGTR may recommend the imposition of anti-dumping duties. The final decision on levying such duties rests with the finance ministry.
