Defence Ministry Notifies Sixth Positive Indigenisation List Covering 405 Items Worth Rs 3,070 Crore
New Delhi, Aug 19 (KNN) The Department of Defence Production (DDP), Ministry of Defence, has notified the sixth Positive Indigenisation List (PIL) covering 405 strategically important defence items with an estimated business potential of Rs 3,070 crore.
The list comprises 16 items of the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) and 389 items of Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs), including Line Replaceable Units, sub-systems, sub-assemblies, spares, components and raw materials.
The items span a wide range of defence platforms and systems, including Advanced Light Helicopters, Light Utility Helicopters, Su-30MKI, Light Combat Aircraft and AL-31FP engines.
It also covers components for T-72, T-90 and BMP-II armoured platforms, warships, missile systems such as Konkurs-M, Invar and MRSAM, and defence electronics including radars, sonars, fire-control and satellite communication systems.
High Explosive Anti-Tank ammunition and other critical defence equipment are also included in the list.
MSMEs to Gain Indigenisation Opportunities
Each item carries an indicative timeline for indigenisation and, following successful indigenous development, will be procured from Indian industry.
DPSUs and the ICG will undertake indigenisation through various routes, including the 'Make' procedure and in-house development, with participation from domestic industry, particularly MSMEs.
SRIJAN Portal to Facilitate Domestic Development
The detailed list has been made available on the SRIJAN Defence Portal, which was launched in August 2020 to facilitate indigenous development and production of defence items by industry, including MSMEs and startups.
The portal has facilitated the offer of more than 33,000 defence items for indigenisation by DPSUs and Service Headquarters (SHQs) up to June 2026, including 5,012 items notified under the first five PILs.
Rs 9,000 Crore Import Substitution Achieved
More than 15,700 defence items have been successfully indigenised, resulting in estimated import substitution of around Rs 9,000 crore over the past five years.
DPSUs have also placed procurement orders, including in-house production, worth approximately Rs 10,000 crore with domestic vendors up to March 2026.
Sixth PIL to Strengthen Domestic Defence Industry
The sixth PIL is expected to expand opportunities for domestic defence manufacturers, strengthen the defence supply chain and support investment and innovation while reducing dependence on imports.
The move is part of the government's broader Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative aimed at promoting self-reliance in defence manufacturing.
