Centre Rolls Out India Energy Stack Version 0.3 To Digitally Integrate Power Sector

New Delhi, Feb 7 (KNN) The Centre has released the latest version of the India Energy Stack (IES) framework, a key digital initiative aimed at transforming data exchange across India’s electricity ecosystem.

Phased Rollout Planned
According to the Strategy Document, the initiative is progressing in phases, spanning design, pilot implementation and national rollout, to support a more reliable, flexible and transparent electricity system, reported the Financial Express.

The updated Version 0.3 incorporates refinements made through ecosystem consultations and technical testing. The framework documents are positioned as evolving drafts that will undergo periodic public review before full-scale deployment.

The project is scheduled for completion by July 2026, with phased national adoption thereafter.

Tackling Digital Fragmentation
Currently, generation, transmission and distribution entities operate largely in silos, resulting in fragmented digital systems and limited real-time visibility across the power value chain.

The India Energy Stack seeks to address this structural gap by creating a unified digital architecture that improves coordination, enhances market efficiency and enables real-time data exchange across stakeholders.

Enabling Consumer and Prosumer Participation
A major thrust of the framework is expanding consumer and prosumer participation in the energy ecosystem.

Through consent-based data sharing and interoperable digital services, households and businesses will be able to access improved energy services, compare supply offerings and participate in programmes such as demand response, EV charging networks and peer-to-peer energy trading.

Built-In Cybersecurity and Privacy Safeguards
The updated framework places strong emphasis on cybersecurity and privacy protection. It incorporates encrypted data exchange, digital credentials and role-based access controls under a “trust-by-design” approach to safeguard sensitive energy data.

Institutional Backing
The review meeting on Version 0.3 was attended by senior policymakers, regulators, utility leaders and digital infrastructure experts to guide the next phase of implementation.

REC Limited is serving as the nodal agency for the initiative, working closely with the Ministry of Power and supported by knowledge partners.

Once implemented, the India Energy Stack is expected to strengthen digital coordination across India’s power sector and lay the foundation for a more integrated, data-driven electricity market.
