Govt Approves Renewable Energy Transmission Schemes Worth Rs 13,595 Cr in Rajasthan and Karnataka

New Delhi, Jun 22 (KNN) In a significant move towards achieving its ambitious renewable energy goals, the Government of India has given the green light to new Inter State Transmission System (ISTS) schemes designed to evacuate 9 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy power from the states of Rajasthan and Karnataka.

These projects, to be implemented through Tariff Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB), are part of India's larger objective to reach 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030. Currently, 200 GW of this target has already been connected to the grid.

The approved schemes include - The Rajasthan Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) Power Evacuation Scheme will handle a capacity of 4.5 GW. This ambitious project comprises 1 GW from the Fatehgarh complex, 2.5 GW from the Barmer Complex, and 1 GW from the Nagaur (Merta) Complex. 

The generated power will be transferred to the Mainpuri Region, Fatehpur, and Orai in Uttar Pradesh. With a timeline of two years for completion, the estimated cost of this scheme stands at Rs 12,241 crore (approximately USD 1.5 billion).

The Karnataka System Strengthening Scheme is set to evacuate 4.5 GW of renewable energy power from the Koppal and Gadag areas. This project is scheduled for completion by June 2027, with an estimated cost of Rs 1,354 crore (approximately USD 165 million).

These initiatives represent a significant step forward in India's renewable energy infrastructure development. 

By facilitating the efficient transfer of clean energy from resource-rich regions to high-demand areas, these transmission projects are expected to play a crucial role in the country's transition to a more sustainable energy future.

The substantial investments in these schemes underscore the government's commitment to renewable energy expansion and its determination to meet its climate change mitigation targets.
