Renewable Energy Push To Create USD 10–15 Bn Land Opportunity In India By 2030: Report

New Delhi, May 20 (KNN) India's fast-expanding renewable energy sector is set to generate between USD 10 billion and USD 15 billion worth of opportunities in land acquisition and aggregation by 2030, according to a new report by real estate consultancy Colliers India.

The projected figures are pegged to India's national target of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil-based installed power capacity by 2030.

The report noted that solar and wind projects alone are expected to contribute 270–300 GW of this addition, requiring nearly 1.73 million acres (approximately 7 lakh acres) of land across the country. This scale of development is expected to open significant opportunities in land acquisition, project development, and associated real estate activity.

As of 2025, India's renewable energy capacity stands at around 251 GW, with an additional 146 GW currently under various stages of construction.

Broader Investment and Infrastructure Impact

Beyond land, the renewable sector is projected to attract USD 110–120 billion in overall investment in the coming years, largely directed at solar and wind infrastructure. This is also expected to generate downstream demand for industrial and warehousing facilities.

Renewable energy equipment manufacturers, or Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), are forecast to lease between 4 and 7 million square feet of Grade A industrial and warehousing space annually by 2030 — representing 10–15 per cent of total sectoral demand in that segment.

Long-Term Growth Implications

The Colliers report underlines that the renewable energy build-out is likely to do more than meet climate goals. It is expected to catalyse the development of new investment destinations and regional growth corridors, contributing to long-term sustainable economic development across the country.
