Four Refineries Awarded 30 KTPA Green Hydrogen Capacity Under SIGHT Scheme

New Delhi, Aug 11 (KNN) The government has awarded a total green hydrogen production capacity of 30 Kilo Tonnes Per Annum (KTPA) to four refineries under the Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) Mode-2B scheme of the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM).

The information was submitted by Union Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy Shripad Yesso Naik in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha.

Indian Oil Corporation Limited has been awarded 10 KTPA capacity at its Panipat refinery, while Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited have been awarded 5 KTPA each at Bina and Vizag, respectively. Numaligarh Refineries Limited has been awarded 10 KTPA capacity at its Numaligarh refinery.

The projects will be implemented through the Build Own Operate (BOO) model by private developers, with project-specific investments to be made by the respective developers.

The National Green Hydrogen Mission is aimed at establishing India as a global hub for the production, use and export of green hydrogen and its derivatives.

The government expects domestic production and utilisation of green hydrogen in the refining sector to help reduce dependence on imported fossil fuels, strengthen energy security and support India's clean energy transition and net-zero objectives.
