Govt Prepares State-Specific Agricultural Roadmaps Based on Agro-Climatic Conditions
New Delhi, Aug 5 (KNN) Agricultural Action Plans have been initiated in Assam, Goa, Maharashtra, Uttarakhand, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Andaman & Nicobar Islands based on agro-climatic conditions and local agricultural requirements.
The information was given by Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Ramnath Thakur in a written reply in the Lok Sabha.
The roadmaps are being prepared by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, ICAR institutes, State Governments, State Agricultural Universities and experts.
The planning considers agro-climatic regions, natural resources, climate resilience, technology interventions and farmers’ needs.
The roadmaps aim to improve agricultural and allied-sector productivity, profitability and resource-use efficiency. They will serve as broad policy frameworks that States and Union Territories may refer to while preparing annual action plans under various schemes.
The key objectives include increasing farmers’ income, improving self-sufficiency in agricultural and allied commodities, generating rural employment and promoting sustainable agricultural growth while addressing local agro-climatic conditions and climate resilience.
